Producers that are not registered with the Canadian Quality Milk program by August 1, 2009 will not receive the milk quality bonus. To facilitate a smooth transition, producers are expected to reach three distinct milestones during the 2008/2009 dairy year:  From August 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008 producers that have reached Milestone #1 (see Milestone Schedule) are eligible for a quality bonus of $0.30 per hectolitre while those that have not reached Milestone #1 are eligible for a bonus of $0.20.  From January 1, 2009 to July 31, 2009 producers that have reached Milestone #2 are eligible for a bonus of $0.30 while those that have only reached Milestone #1 are eligible for a bonus of $0.20. Producers that have not reached Milestone #1 are eligible for a bonus of $0.10.  Effective August 1, 2009 producers that have reached Milestone #3 are eligible for a bonus of $0.30. Those that have not reached Milestone #3 are not eligible for any bonus.  Milestone #1 by August 1, 2008 a. Attend a workshop or receive on-farm CQM training b. Complete Standard Operating Procedures c. Begin keeping permanent records for bulk tank temperature and livestock treatments Milestone #2 by January 1, 2009 a. Have at least three months worth of permanent records for bulk tank temperature and livestock treatments b. Pass water test   Milestone #3 by August 1, 2009 a. Meet remaining program requirements and receive full certification*  *Note: Certification and registration mean the same thing. To achieve this, a validator must come to your farm and all corrective actions must be dealt with before a certificate and a unique CQM registration number is issued.  As a member of Dairy Farmers of Canada, the BC Milk Producers Association is responsible for implementing the CQM program in BC. Following a recommendation by BCMPA, the BC Milk Marketing Board has agreed to administer changes to the quality bonus payments.  For more information and to sign up for CQM training, please contact Carla DeGroot, Producer Services Coordinator.
